Lunatic in a Laundry Basket
Note: She spent at least a half hour sitting in this basket and leaning over until it fell over, then giggling uncontrollably just to climb back in and do it again. What’s the point of toys if all I have to do is leave a basket of newly washed whites sitting in the floor?

a dreamer, a wisher
“If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hoper, a prayer, a magic-bean-buyer. If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!”
Shel Silverstein

How I Feel About Having Two Kids in School
Note: Can you tell I’m totally bored with my photography right now? I always know when I get bored because I start to attempt to edit them to look like something because I am bored with how they look just all normal.
Note2: I’m so white

Differing Perspectives
Kate: “I LOVE PETE! PETE! PETE! LOVE! PETE!”
Pete: “…if I promise for reals this time not to steal anything off the kitchen counter, will you please remove that thing…”
Kate: “I LOVE PETE! OOOOO! LOVE! PETE!”
Pete: “seriously…I mean it…never ever again with the stealing off the counter…”
Kate: “PETE IS THE BEST DOG! I LOVE PETE!”
Pete: “this is getting more than a little ridiculous. I think I hate you.”
Note: Not matter what I did, I could not get this girl to NOT look some ghastly shade of puke green. Black & white saves the day!

p.s. special love to all of the pretty and beautiful people who commented on the over-edited wagon. You are all super wonderful in my book and I love you beyond measure…you know… LOVE! OOOO! LOVE! YOU! YOU ARE THE BEST INTERNET! I LOVE YOU!…which means you are sitting there thinking….”this is getting ridiculous”

To Edit or Not to Edit
that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler of the photographer to suffer
The colors and tones of in-camera processing,
Or to take arms against a sea of washed out colors,
And by over-editing, end them?
I could go on, but I shall spare you.
(to die! to sleep!…. )
(is it little wonder I like Shakespeare! SO NEEDLESSLY DRAMATIC!)
(I mean really…sleep or die? those are the options? that’s all you have?)
(Okay, yes, I know, they were metaphors, but still….)
(more parenthetical asides? I got them cheap on ebay!)
Note (finally, she might be serious?): I BELIEVE this MIGHT be my childhood wagon? With my mom and dad you just never know…. they could have got it at a garage sale or purchased it at a car swap meet to help drag around piles of other rusty stuff? I know we DID have a wagon like this…so maybe? At any rate, it is filled with dirt because my mom now uses it as the dirt hauler for wandering around the back yard and filling in the holes her zany dog has dug. Rumor is the dog has “outgrown” the hole digging thing, but I found another one out there tonight…so I’m not really buying what my mom is selling…
Note2: Could I possibly have edited this more?? I posted both the edited version and the straight-out-o’-the-camera version just for kicks and giggles so ya’ll can compare and give me a shout out on which you prefer — over-edited or under-whemling. I leave the call up to you.
Note3: Note2 is a not-so-subtle hint to leave a comment.

Jump! Jump! Jump!
Note: Inspired by a question long ago from Julie Metcalf regarding backlit and reflectors
Note2: I laid in smelly stagnant water for this shot. You’re welcome.

Drippy Stuff
Note: It rained today!
Note2: Funny story — while we were in Washington for the summer, it rained for quite a bit of it. At one point, Elijah, who is FIVE!, was telling us what he and Kate had been doing. It involved lots of pointing outside and going um um um… and was followed with, “we were playing out there…in the….um….you know… the drippy stuff.”
“The drippy stuff?”
“yeah. you know…. from the sky.”
!!!!
“You mean the RAIN?”
“YEAH! RAIN! We were playing in the RAIN!”
This is how you know you live in the desert. When your very smart 5 year old can’t name a basic type of precipitation. He can tell you the different states of water (”solid is ice, liquid is water, gas is steam”) but can’t tell you what to call it when it just falls all willy nilly from the sky…
