She’s All Legs
Note: You know you might be a photographer when — you position your children’s swingset in a way in which you know the evening light will hit it best.
Note2: She wears this green fairy dress all the time. You’ve seen it before. I’m sure you’ll see it again. But I was captivated by the way the light made it glitter and glow as she stood in their treehouse.

Moolah The Money Savvy Cow
Note: Elijah has hit the point where he’s really starting to understand what money is all about, so I’ve started giving him an allowance. I remember reading somewhere about how this mom had a special kind of bank with three separate sections in it to help her kids learn how to save money and how to tithe money and whatnot. I wanted to make sure I started the kid out right and found this fantastically cute set of banks online. There are pigs as well, and I ordered Katie a pink pig so we didn’t have arguements and such. I have to say that I’m really excited about the concept. Here’s how I have it set up for him.
He gets $1.25, all in quarters.
One quarter goes in “invest” which we’re calling “the bank” for long term saving.
One quarter goes in “donate” which we’re calling “God’s money” for a tithe. No it’s not 10%, but it’s easy for him to understand.
And the other three quarters he can divide as he wishes between “spend” and “save”. Wev’e decided that “save” is the money he’s saving for a special toy at the store and “spend” is for when he wants a gumball at the grocery store or a candy bar or something silly on a whim. This week he put all three quarters in “save” because he has his eye on a car at the toy store. But last week’s three quarters he put in “spend”. It’s up to him. But we have definitely talked about how if he keeps putting it in spend, he’ll never have enough to get his car.
Note2: I love how the sun hit the cow. So pretty.

Holding Onto The Sun
Note: I had a student come see me to spend today learning all about how to use her flash. We had a really fun and fantastic day and I think she even learned a bit, too.
Note2: I might have played a bit as well
Note3: The day being the only practice subject reaffirmed several things to me:
1) I will be single forever because holy geez, is that what I really look like all the time?
2) I am better suited to being behind the camera than in front of it
3) I’d rather teach than model
Note4: Crosslighting is fun

Pout
Note: This is another one of those images I shall show to boyfriends and such when she is in need of proper embarrassment.
Note2: She picked out her own clothes and she would have NO DISCUSSION about wearing anything else. NONE at all.

I Think They Like It
Note: Glad to know all of that hard work paid off……….
Note2: ALSO — side benefit — Elijah is enjoying pushing Katie.

Self-Portrait Tuesday (on Wednesday!): Look at the House that Jack Built
Note: I just spent the last four days (minus the trip to the zoo) putting that thing together.
Note2: On Monday night, I had dreams of drills and screwdrivers and cedar smelling wood.
Note3: But I have now enjoyed almost two straight hours of kid free time while they FROLIC outside. It’s PURE BLISS
Note4: The IRS paid for it. Thank you, dear lovely government for things like Earned Income Credits and Child Credits. My sanity appreciates you!

ZEBRAS!
Note: We went to the zoo. What is it about Zebras that makes me so appealing? And giraffes…. something about the ears, I think. How they are all sticky-outy on the sides, maybe? Rhinos, though, can never be cute. Because they smell too horribly awful. And smelly is NEVER cute.

Helper
Note: This picture makes me both happy and sad. Happy that I include him — makes me feel like a good mom. Sad because this was the type of thing my dad would totally do and he’s not here to do it. Plus, I was sort of counting on my dad teaching him how to do all of this stuff and more so that in my old age, I could count on the boy child to be my free handyman…. what? well, I’m sorry if that sounds selfish. It’s true. Stop looking at me like that. I also had kids so that I could have somewhere around 15 total years of making someone else do the dishes. We are approaching the beginning of my 15 years off. I’m totally looking forward to it.
85mm lens and lots of other info I’m not looking up for you right now.

???
Note: I haven’t decided yet:
a) I’ve ruined her for a camera for life
OR
b) She’s practicing for her future as a member of the Witness Protection Program
OR
c) She’s already acting 12, a la “OMGosh! MOM! EWW! People are WATCHING! Don’t kiss me!”
OR
d) She’s is just the most uncooperative child ever
Note2: Took this last night at t-ball practice because the light, it was perty, and also, there was time to just sit and do nothing and HEY! I had a camera! dangerous combo right there, and ALSO, what’s more fun than playing with the self-timer?
Note3: I really really like how the dead tree sort of forms a frame around us. Totally unintentional. But really cool. I’ll have to remember that for future images.
