Lazy Saturday Afternoon
Note: Thursday was interesting - Elijah somehow managed to find Scarlet Fever and decide to really make a go of working it to it’s best possible extent - adding Pneumonia and a sinus infection on top of it just for kicks. A strong anti-biotic kicked it’s bootie quite quickly, but it turns out The Fever is quite the contagious thing and by this afternoon, Katie had a rip roaring case of it herself. Another trip to the Urgent Care Clinic and more Bubble Gum Flavored Anti-biotics and we are all just up for a lazy afternoon doing nothing.
Note2: You know what your first thought is when you hear “scarlet fever”? Two words: Helen Keller. That’s right. So Thursday night at 11pm, I had this sudden panic that if I didn’t watch Elijah super carefully he was going to wake up at 4 in the morning crying because he couldn’t see. I hate the things you mind comes up with in the middle of the night! Good thing I have google. I learned quite a bit about Scarlet Fever and it’s associated complications. Fun times at Casa Wendy.
Note3: This is a really horrible picture, but I’ve been puked on twice today and therefore I make no apologies.

Friendly Neighbor Kitty
Note: This is the very friendly kitty who visits us every so often. He likes scratches. He does NOT like the dog.

Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That signifies nothing. For us believing physicists the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. ~Albert Einstein
Today would mark my dad’s 55th birthday. Last year on this day, we were blissfully unaware that in one year’s time, we would all be missing the cornerstone of our family. A reminder that each day is it’s own and should be taken as the blessing that it is. To breath deeply of the air around and to take in each moment with joy abundant, for that moment is truly fleeting.
I miss you, Dad.

“I believe in the photographer’s magic — the ability to stir the soul with light and shape and colour. To create grand visual moments out of small and simple things, and to infuse big and complicated subjects with unpretentious elegance.” -Amyn Nasser

After the TipToe Through the Tulips
Note: This is NOT really what I was going for. I have this whole idea in my head but she was NOT cooperative and this is the best I could get. She’s hit this point in her stage as a three year old where I want wrap her in saran wrap and then put in a box full of styrofoam peanuts and send her somewhere, anywhere, where I am NOT.
Note2: However, uncooperative subjects lead to interesting outtakes—

And when you finally get so fed up that you can’t stand it anymore, you CHANGE MODELS. This one was much more cooperative.

“‘It’s hard to just up and change who you are. Not just hard. Damn near impossible. The only other thing you can do is accept yourself for who you are, but what if who you are is unacceptable? What do you do then? You change, I guess. It’s either that or throw yourself off the nearest bridge. I don’t even know where my nearest bridge is, and if I did, I’d be too drunk to get there, anyway.’ Lilly Lorraine, in a letter to Danny Greene, undated “

04.11.08 - BONUS POST! YAY!

First Pedicures
Note: Yes. Plural. It was my first one, too. At least that was done my someone besides me. It was a lot of fun and Katie had a BLAST. And she has shown everyone her toenails. On the way to pick up Elijah from the bus stop this afternoon, she put her foot out the window and told the sun to look at her pretty toes and then pulled her foot back in and declared, “I don’t yike the sun anymowah!” When asked why, the answer was, “It didn’t think my toes were pwetty!” Who knew the sun had opinions about toes?
