My Children Are Different: Exhibit A

Quite a while ago I wrote a little thing about how different my children are from each other.

One is older, the other younger.

One is a peacamaker, the other battles through obstacles with willful indignation.

One is a gentle spirit, the other independent.

One is all logic, the other all emotion.

One is quick to make friends, the other is cautious.

One jumps in feet first without a backward glance, the other dips a toe to test the water.

One assumes that all square pegs must always go in square holes, the other assumes that square pegs were meant to be altered to fit whatever hole is desired.

One is going to be a doctor or lawyer or indian chief, the other is going to be whatever-I-dang-well-please-and-no-one-can-stop-me-thankyouverymuch.

One goes along with the gentle sway of the tide waiting for the right moment to come, the other fights against the ebbs and flows with an unbreakable determination to win a useless battle of the ages.

One is destined for greatness simply because that is what is expected of oneself, the other is destined for greatness because settling for less would be unacceptable.

Both are loved beyond measure.

The above is just visible proof. On the left, Elijah cleaned up the crayons and his colored pencils. On the right, Katie cleaned up the crayons and her pencils.

CottonCandy Camera Strap

Note: One of my current students makes these AWESOME camera straps. And she can custom make them as well, so I got mine an extra 10″ longer so that the camera doesn’t stick out of my boobs anymore….which is a nice feature…. I am in love with the thing in that I can actually just sling that baby across my body and not have a camera in my armpit either. I HIGHLY recommend them!
check them out in her etsy shop:

Yeast Killer

Note: I know. This is creepy. LOL
Note2: But I didn’t wait for the warmed mixture to cool down enough before I added it to my yeast mixture and I fried the little boogers.

Note3: Whoops.

Mom Car

Running errands trying to get stuff done before the busy weekend… meant I spent all day in my car….in my dirty car…..because I am a mom and I have “mom car”… cracker crumbs and stray cheerios and school papers and empty granola bar wrappers that got passed up to the front seat. That’s just the way it is.

Where I Work

Note: Right. So. This week is INSANE (pictures for why forthcoming!) and so my pic-a-day is suffering. But I did TAKE a picture today. It’s certainly horribly awful, but I figure it’s a glimpse into my daily life, so whatever.

Lazy Saturday Afternoon

Note: Thursday was interesting - Elijah somehow managed to find Scarlet Fever and decide to really make a go of working it to it’s best possible extent - adding Pneumonia and a sinus infection on top of it just for kicks. A strong anti-biotic kicked it’s bootie quite quickly, but it turns out The Fever is quite the contagious thing and by this afternoon, Katie had a rip roaring case of it herself. Another trip to the Urgent Care Clinic and more Bubble Gum Flavored Anti-biotics and we are all just up for a lazy afternoon doing nothing.

Note2: You know what your first thought is when you hear “scarlet fever”? Two words: Helen Keller. That’s right. So Thursday night at 11pm, I had this sudden panic that if I didn’t watch Elijah super carefully he was going to wake up at 4 in the morning crying because he couldn’t see. I hate the things you mind comes up with in the middle of the night! Good thing I have google. I learned quite a bit about Scarlet Fever and it’s associated complications. Fun times at Casa Wendy.

Note3: This is a really horrible picture, but I’ve been puked on twice today and therefore I make no apologies.

Spent

“‘It’s hard to just up and change who you are. Not just hard. Damn near impossible. The only other thing you can do is accept yourself for who you are, but what if who you are is unacceptable? What do you do then? You change, I guess. It’s either that or throw yourself off the nearest bridge. I don’t even know where my nearest bridge is, and if I did, I’d be too drunk to get there, anyway.’ Lilly Lorraine, in a letter to Danny Greene, undated “
