Note: Danielle has taken two classes from me and I’ve loved having her in both. One of the assignments in the Continuing Education Class (open to students who have previously taken a different class from me) involves some alternate rules of composition, including color and texture rules. Danielle submitted this photo for the Monochromatic Color assignment and I loved it the moment I saw it.

Note: Julie took my class last summer and I loved having her so much. We pushed her limits with style and I gasped when she turned in this image. I am in love with the light and the move here.

By Marla Laramie
Note: One of the assignments asks the students to create both a white backdrop and a black backdrop using only a difference in dynamic range. This was Marla’s image and it made me catch my breath the moment I saw it.

By Jillian Guimont Paddack
Note: Jillian took my class last spring and has this adorably cute little sweetheart of a girl. I loved this image because of the color and how it gives such a wonderful frame to such a wonderful face.

Dream by Cathy Davidson
Note: I have “known” Cathy through various forums and message boards for almost three years. This past summer, she signed up and took one of my photography classes and it was such a joy to me to have this sweet wonderful woman in my class with me. Recently, some very hard struggles have hit her family and my heart just aches for them. It is one of those things that really makes you ask, “Why do bad things happen to such good people?”
Note2: Cathy submitted this image to me in color with very little editing and we worked together to turn it into this and it’s one of my favorites. I love the gritty feel of this combined with the super sweet idea of the image. Makes it so dreamy.

Starting a New Thing — A request was made to show some student work and I think this is a really really fun idea. So on Saturdays I’m going to not only post an image of my own but also feature some work from current and past students. I’m really very excited about this!

By Melissa Lee
Note: Melissa took this for Assignment 5 - the assignment most of my students hate but which I love. It pushes them. One of the more fun images I ask them to create is that of a silhouette. I just love this one. It reminds me of Mark Twain and Huckleberry Finn.
Note2: Melissa says that it reminds her of Winnie the Pooh. So I guess we’re all on track with the literary allusions.
